Following massive flooding from Helene, Hillsborough deputies refine water rescue skills

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, on the heels of Hurricane Helene and its devastating impacts locally and regionally, has undergone a joint training with the U.S. Air Force and Coast Guard to refine skills for critical water rescue operations.

The training includes Air Force members deploying a life raft with crew, who then signal the Coast Guard, which utilizes a helicopter for rescue using a hoist to remove victims from the raft.

Sheriff’s deputies, meanwhile, perform rescues via water using boats and jet skis.

“Each one of us has our own mission,” a deputy says in video highlighting training.
