Most any Tampa Bay restaurant with a decent Cuban sandwich uses La Segunda Central Bakery’s bread, its authenticity verified with the imprint of a Palmetto leaf.
The bakery is a Tampa gem, going strong since 1915. But its location on the outskirts of Ybor City can be a challenge.
La Segunda Bakery & Cafe, 4015 W. Kennedy Blvd., in Tampa’s Westshore area solves the problem. Of course, the Cuban bread is the star of the show, topped simply with butter and guava jam or piled high with mojo chicken for lunch. But nothing beats the delicious guava and cheese turnovers.
