Inviting elected officials and board members to your organization’s events is a great way to build relationships and ensure that they understand what matters to your group.
Under Florida’s Sunshine Law, however, well-intended invitations may unintentionally create difficult situations.
Here are three important tips for avoiding Sunshine Law problems:
1. Public board members shouldn’t be asked to give presentations about a matter that may come before them for a vote.
2. Give board members the option to sit at separate tables.
3. Still facing Sunshine Law concerns? Consider meeting the requirements of the law after consulting with legal counsel.
