Tampa Electric previews groundbreaking solar project

Floating solar panels at Big Big Power Station to help Tampa Electric achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050

by The 100 Companies

Tampa Electric revealed a new double-sided floating solar array expected to come online by the end of March. The first-of-its-kind project consists of 3,200 double-sided one-megawatt solar panels sitting atop an existing pond at the Big Bend Power Station.

By the end of 2023, Tampa Electric will have more than 1,250 mega watts of solar power – enough to power more than 200,000 homes. It plans to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The project is located at the Florida Conservation and Technology Center, which is a collaboration with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
