Winner: University of South Florida. A study by USF’s Muma College of Business pegged the school’s economic impact on the state at $6.02 billion for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

The study also showed USF was awarded a record $535.4 million in research contracts and grants, establishing the university’s repertoire.

Loser: Affordable housing. Where should poor veterans and disabled people live? Not in my backyard, say Seminole residents. The Seminole City Council halted a long-running development plan after neighbors protested.

The proposed 64-unit complex would have provided subsidized housing. Veterans would have received preference in more than half of the units.
