March 14: Tampa Bay’s Winner and Loser

Winner: Toni Schuck. The Florida Highway Patrol Trooper put others ahead of herself when she purposefully drove into the path of a speeding car headed the wrong way toward 10k runners on the Skyway Bridge. The driver of that car was charged with DUI.

Schuck has worked for the Florida Highway patrol for 26 years.

Loser: Tampa renters. For all the positives about what’s happening in Tampa, the dark underbelly is that housing prices are increasing at an unsustainable level. Redfin.com reported that rents increased 31% in Tampa last year. That’s Florida’s highest rate and seventh in the country.
