The Rays hope to have Wander Franco back soon. He has been out since May 30 with leg issues, but Franco began his minor-league rehab assignment Saturday by hitting a triple in his first at-bat in a rookie-level game.
He was 1-for-4 as the designated hitter.
Manager Kevin Cash said Franco had “a good day” in his initial assignment.
Franco is scheduled to start at shortstop on Monday night for the Florida Complex Rays in Port Charlotte. Barring a setback, Franco will then report to Triple-A Durham with the aim to have him back with the Rays by next week.
