The season debut for highly touted Rays pitcher Shane Baz went swimmingly Saturday against Minnesota – until it didn’t.
After sailing through the first two innings, Baz went blah in the third inning when the Twins scored five times off him en route to a 6-5 victory. Baz has been out since spring training after arthroscopic surgery on his pitching elbow.
After the game, Baz said he felt fine physically.
The Rays also transferred right-handed pitcher Andrew Kittredge to the 60-day injured list. Kittridge is scheduled for Tommy John surgery on June 22 and will miss the remainder of the season.
