The men’s lacrosse team at University of Tampa captured the school’s first national championship in the sport.

The Spartans topped Mercy 11-7 in East Hartford, Conn. In the NCAA Division II title game. After a 1-1 first period, UT poured in seven second-quarter goals to take command of the contest.

Tampa finished 21-0, its first undefeated season in program history. Sixteen of the wins came against nationally-ranked opponents. The Spartans outscored three top-five opponents in the NCAA tournament by a combined score of 43-26.

UT also became the nation’s southernmost school to win a men’s national championship in the sport.
