U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost has secured a $500,000 federal grant for the Florida Department of Transportation to support the Miami-Orlando-Tampa Sunshine Corridor, a plan to connect regions of south and central Florida.
The Sunshine Corridor would include tracks from Brightline and SunRail lines, with a westward expansion adding a station in Tampa. The funding allows FDOT to develop a scope, schedule and cost estimate.
“Alleviating daily traffic, connecting our coasts to Central Florida and investing in the future of transportation for our state is a win-win for Florida,” Frost said.
Funding comes from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Corridor ID program.
