Robert Birchum, a former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer who was, for a time, stationed at MacDill Air Force Base, admitted in federal court Tuesday to keeping classified national security documents at his Tampa home, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
He plead guilty to unlawful retention of national defense information, which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
The plea comes after a flurry of controversy over the handling of classified documents, including by former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, stemming from when he served as Vice President under Barack Obama and former Vice President Mike Pence.
