Tony Kerns was participating in a 5K in Safety Harbor when he collapsed in sudden cardiac arrest on Feb. 2. Luckily, a nurse running behind him immediately began to administer CPR. The Sunstar Paramedics special events team arrived within seconds and defibrillated Tony, which brought back a normal heart rhythm.
Kerns, a sales manager from Trinity, regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital for open-heart bypass surgery. He made a full recovery and met the first responders whose quick actions were vital to his survival.
Now, Tony is running again and getting ready for his next 5K.
