Preparing kids for success in school

by
Prekindergarten children

In 2016-2017, only 57% of kindergarteners in Pinellas County were “ready” for kindergarten, according to the Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener. However, kids who attend voluntary pre-kindergarten (VPK) programs are significantly more prepared for kindergarten.

Cost and lack of flexibility in scheduling have often prevented kids from attending VPK. Programs are traditionally only partial days, making it hard to arrange transportation, or they have high enrollment costs.

A new program called PreK All Day is addressing the previous barriers to kids attending VPK. Income-based scholarships are available for a full day of care for children ages 4-5.
