Cuban (sandwich) history

by The 100 Companies

Following his return from the Spanish-American War in Cuba, Juan Moré was instrumental in opening a trio of bakeries in the thriving Cuban district of Ybor City. In 1915, he purchased La Segunda Central Bakery from his partners and set to work creating the bakery of his dreams – one that rose from his love for authentic Cuban bread.

These days, residents of Tampa Bay still make their version of the famous Cuban sandwich using mojo pork, ham, salami, pickles, Swiss cheese and mustard piled between two slices of bread from Segundo’s – the world’s largest producer of Cuban bread.

¡Buen provecho!
