Explore Fluxus art at Museum of Fine Arts

The Fluxus art movement is all about expanding the traditional notion of art.

Fluxus artists often use everyday materials in their work and like to blur the boundary between life and art. The movement took root in the 1960s as an attack on the perceived elitism in the art world.

See an example at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. Performance artist Alison Knowles’ “Bean Garden” invites visitors to wade through a wooden box filled with one ton of Great Northern beans. Microphones amplify the sounds created by the movement, making the viewer a part of the art.
