Tampa Mayor Jane Castor wants bikes off the busy 2.6-mile stretch of Riverwalk, a winding path along the Hillsborough River at the edge of downtown, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Riverwalk has a posted 5 mph speed limit and signs alert bikers to yield to pedestrians, but not everyone follows the rules.
Castor acknowledges she can’t eliminate bikes on Riverwalk until the city is able to “provide bike lanes along Ashley Drive and other streets.”
For now, the city is working with Tampa police on enforcement, but is emphasizing education and also considering potential calming features along the path.
