Is your dog digging holes in the backyard? It may not be mischief. If your dog is hot, he or she may dig holes to find a cooler place to lay.

Dogs can overheat just as easily as you but can’t express their discomfort in the same way. With a few simple steps, you can keep your furry friend health and happy in the summer heat.

• Check the pavement temperature with your hand before walks.
• Freeze yogurt or other pet treats for a cool snack.
• An inexpensive kiddie pool can help your dog cool off.
