Lakeland Police to use high-tech Florida Poly body cam trigger

by The 100 Companies

Florida Polytechnic University mechanical engineers have invented a device to help law enforcement officers effortlessly turn on body cameras, providing enhanced safety and transparency during high-stress situations when officers must draw their weapons.

The patent-pending device is already in use by the Lakeland Police Department. Invented primarily by Florida Poly graduate Matthew DeCicco and secondarily by Mike Kalman, a Florida Poly fabrication specialist, the device allows the body camera to turn on the moment an officer pulls their firearm from its specially-designed holster.

The technology uses a Bluetooth-activated sensor to ensure officers’ cameras are on when they are most needed.
