The Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees is honoring former school President Randy Avent with the title President Emeritus in recognition of his service to the university.
Avent was the school’s first president, leading the STEM college from its 2014 opening through his retirement last Spring. Under Avent, the school achieved ABET accreditation and regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Additionally, he oversaw infrastructure expansion, including the Barnett Applied Research Center and Gary C. Wendt Engineering Building, which opens this Spring.
The title is for former university presidents who have served with distinction.
