Officials hopeful Tampa airport could get new air traffic control tower

by The 100 Companies

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor wants to set aside federal money to replace the half- century old air traffic control tower at Tampa International Airport.

President Joe Biden’s 2024 budget includes $662 million to replace seven towers nationwide, but doesn’t specify how much money each project would get, including in Tampa.

The tower has been ailing for years, including challenges with its elevator, electrical system, sewage and air conditioning.

Castor is calling for a “modern tower” to solve problems, including discomfort and inconvenience for employees.

Despite being one of the nation’s top-rated airports, Tampa International doesn’t meet Federal Aviation Authority standards.
