Attorney General James Uthmeier is pushing a major crackdown on illegal gambling as hundreds of millions in legal sports betting revenue flow to the state under Florida’s Gaming Compact with the Seminole Tribe.
The Tribe, headquartered in Hollywood, operates the state-sanctioned Hard Rock Bet platform, which Uthmeier says has been a success for taxpayers. But he said unregulated casinos, offshore betting sites and sweepstakes-style apps are siphoning money away.
Uthmeier’s Office is working on several fixes. He is also backing 2026 bills to stiffen penalties, arguing current misdemeanor punishments fail to deter operations tied to money laundering and other crimes.
