U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz is confident Florida’s post-Parkland gun safety law will remain intact despite House efforts to lower the firearm purchase age from 21 to 18.
The Broward Democrat, who sponsored the 2018 law, predicted that Florida Senators will not advance the rollback.
Moskowitz marked the shooting’s eighth anniversary with Parkland parents Tony Montalto and Tom Hoyer, who urged lawmakers to preserve the restrictions, noting the shooter was 18 when he bought the rifle used in the attack.
Moskowitz also promoted federal school safety legislation, warning that distance from tragedies can weaken resolve to maintain protections enacted after mass shootings.
