Legislation eliminating Florida’s yellow license-plate registration decals zipped through its first committee with unanimous support.
House Government Oversight Subcommittee members voted 15-0 for the bill by Miami Lakes Republican Rep. Tom Fabricio, filed at the request of Miami-Dade Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez.
If enacted, registration renewals would be recorded electronically, ending the need for a physical sticker and saving governments money; Fernandez estimated nearly $3 million a year in Miami-Dade alone.
Backers include Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Fraternal Order of Police and Americans for Prosperity. The bill next goes to House State Affairs. A Senate companion awaits its first hearing.
