And then there were 2: Wengay Newton and Corey Givens Jr. head to runoff for St. Pete City Council

Former St. Petersburg City Council member Wengay Newton will face Corey Givens Jr. on Nov. 5 for a runoff after the two candidates secured the top two spots in the August Primary Election.

Newton served two terms on Council, before a stint in the Florida House and running unsuccessfully for Pinellas County Commission and St. Pete Mayor. With term limits reset, he’s looking for a comeback.

Givens is a well-known community leader, serving on several boards, including many that advocate for disadvantaged youth. This is Givens’ third run at office, after running unsuccessfully for City Council Pinellas County School Board.
