Tradition is important to Chris Salgado and Julissa Orama, so when Julissa’s parents could no longer run El Gallo de Oro, their West Tampa family restaurant, it seemed natural for the young couple to take over.
The restaurant has served Cuban cuisine since 1983, on the principle that every meal should taste like Sunday night supper your grandmother made.
What makes the successful El Gallo de Oro authentic? They make their seasonings in-house. Many of their ingredients – from ground garlic to fresh oregano to sweet plantains – are made from scratch. And their imported Spanish meats are cooked to order.
