USF biomedical engineering graduates are receiving national recognition for a prototype device designed to help the critical shortage of ventilators in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The device, called the Eucovent, allows two patients to be ventilated by a single machine. It was developed by USF students Carolyna Yamamoto Alves Pinto, Abby Blocker and Jacob Yarinsky. The trio built the device as part of their biomedical engineering degree senior design project.
Moffitt Cancer Center researchers looking for solutions to problems with co-ventilation proposed the class project prompt.
The students plan to continue to improve the design while awaiting patent approval.
