Seniors improve literacy, one child at a time

by
Seniors in Service classroom volunteer

Seniors in Service volunteers mentor young students and make a big impact in low-performing schools. This year, volunteers will mentor over 3,000 children and tutor over 600 students in Hillsborough and Pinellas County, with a 95% success rate in improving literacy levels for the students they work with.

As the seniors give their time, many say they are the ones who receive the benefits of their service, describing themselves as feeling needed and purposeful.

Give Day funds will help address a glaring need: Currently, there is a waiting list of 40 Title I schools that have requested help.
