U.S. Rep. Laurel Lee has co-sponsored the Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act, a bipartisan measure that would remove the age requirement for those seeking to expunge first-time offenses on federal drug possession charges.
Other co-sponsors include Senate Democrat Chris Coons and House Democrats Glenn Ivey, Hakeem Jeffries, Mary Gay Scanlon and Madeleine Dean. Republican co-sponsors, in addition to Lee, include Sen. John Cornyn and Reps. Nathaniel Moran, Kelly Armstrong and Barry Moore.
The bill is named in honor of late New York District Attorney Ken Thompson, who passed away in 2016 after a long, transformational career in criminal justice.
