St. Petersburg City Council member Gina Driscoll, hot off a term as chair in 2022, has long been rumored to be considering a mayoral bid, though nothing has been announced and the rumors have quieted.
Yet with problems potentially brewing for incumbent Mayor Ken Welch, as well as backroom rumors of a potential switch to the Republican Party, Driscoll’s mayoral aspirations shouldn’t be entirely dismissed.
If there are hints in Welch’s second year in office, they may come from pushback against his policies, particularly as he seeks a study on Albert Whitted Airport and a new developer for Tropicana Field.
