Former Pinellas County Commissioner Ken Welch has released his second ad for his St. Petersburg mayoral campaign.

The 30-second ad, “Safe for Everyone,” addresses the current spike in gun violence in the city.

“As Mayor, I’ll address the root causes of crime,” Welch says in the ad. “I won’t be afraid to address the violence that especially impacts the Black community and the guns on our streets. I’m Ken Welch, this city can’t be great for everyone until it’s safe for everyone.”

So far this year, St. Pete has seen at least 20 shooting deaths — that’s already more than 2020’s 15.
