As it continues to experience record ridership and receive praise from users, the fairly new SunRunner service in St. Pete – the region’s first bus rapid transit route – is getting a boost. On Wednesday, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority approved the purchase of three new buses to meet capacity on the popular route between downtown St. Pete and the beaches.
But in Tampa, transparency took a hit. A Tampa Bay Times investigation finds shell political committees – funded by Tampa donors, including Mayor Jane Castor and business interests –played heavily in City Council races, which in at least one contest, went negative.
