The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced that Tampa gained the third-highest number of private sector jobs among Florida metros, adding 69,900 new jobs over the year, a 5.7% increase.
Tampa also led Florida metros in job gains over the year in financial activities, adding 6,900 jobs.
The report added that Tampa’s labor force grew by 64,294 over the year in May 2022, a 4.1% increase. The Tampa area’s unemployment rate was 2.4% in May 2022, down from last year’s rate of 4.3%.
Hospitality; trade, transportation and utilities; and business services were the industries that gained the most jobs.
