The Tampa Rays, already battered by injuries, may have seen the last of centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier for this season. The Tampa Bay Times reported Kiermaier may need surgery on his left hip.
Manager Kevin Cash said, “I think that’s … the direction it’s going.”
The Rays are already without mainstays Wander Franco, Manuel Margot, Mike Zunino and Yandy Diaz, along with several other players.
The injury clouds Kiermaier’s future with the Rays.
Kiermaier is in the last guaranteed year of his contract, with a $13 million Rays option or a $2.5 million buyout for 2023. They also could restructure the deal.
