Pete Alonso chases history at Home Run Derby

Tampa’s Pete Alonso will go for an unprecedented three-peat in the Home Run Derby Monday night as part of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium.

Alonso, who plays for the New York Mets, would be the first player to win three derby titles in a row. Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr. has three titles, but not in succession.

Alonso first won in 2019, then repeated last year with 74 homers at Coors Field in Denver. The 2020 derby was canceled because of COVID-19.

He started at Jesuit High but finished his last two years at Plant.
