USF’s stay in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament didn’t last long as the Bulls were defeated by No. 8-seeded Miami 78-66 in a first-round game in Columbia, South Carolina.
South Florida fell behind 24-11 after the first quarter and got no closer than eight points. The Bulls finished the season with a 24-9 record.
“We won two quarters and another quarter was two points (margin),” USF Coach Jose Fernandez said. “But they shot the ball extremely well. Uncharacteristic for us, we didn’t defend well. Give them credit. NCAA Tournament, they showed up more. We needed more guys to show up.”
