The University of Tampa men’s basketball team completes the regular season Saturday at Palm Beach Atlantic. It then looks forward to the start of Sunshine State Conference tournament play on Tuesday.

The Spartans are 15-8 after a 74-72 overtime victory over Florida Tech.

Richard Schmidt is completing his 41st season as the Spartans’ head coach. He came to Tampa in 1982 when the school revived a program that it had closed 13 years previously.

Schmidt, who coached two seasons at Vanderbilt, has a 719-421 career record. Under his leadership, UT has five conference titles and 16 NCAA Division 2 appearances.
