The women’s soccer team at the University of South Florida opened their season Thursday with a 2-1 home win over the Florida Gators before 1,956 fans. That is just shy of the 2,011 record  for a Bulls’ home game.

Chloe Zamiela of Stuart and Madeleine Penman-Derstine of Toronto scored goals for the Bulls.

Sydny Nasello of Land O’ Lakes, the preseason American Athletic Conference offensive player of the year, had an assist. It was USF’s second win in its last three meetings against UF.

USF was predicted to finish first in the AAC in a poll of the league’s coaches.
