Gus Bilirakis introduces drug parity act for oral chemo

by The 100 Companies

U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis is joining a bipartisan team of Congressmembers in sponsoring the Cancer Drug Parity Act, which would require health plans covering intravenous and injectable cancer medications to also cover oral medications.

Oral chemotherapy is being increasingly used as a cancer treatment and represents about 35% of oncology development. Yes, insurance coverage is lagging, with coverage typically falling under prescription plans, causing pay disparity.

“Cancer patients should have access to whichever treatment gives them the best chance to fully recover,” Bilirakis said.

U.S. Reps. Brian Higgins, Brett Guthrie and Doris Matsui joined Bilirakis in introducing the bill.
