A tiff between Attorney General James Uthmeier and Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony about immigration enforcement got smoothed out – one week before a judge found Uthmeier in contempt of court over the same issue.
In a letter, Uthmeier demanded Tony clarify remarks he made that “immigration is not” a priority of the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). Tony quickly responded, explaining the BSO is focused on curbing criminal activity, “including crimes committed by unauthorized aliens.”
That appeared to satisfy Uthmeier, who on Tuesday was ordered to begin filing regular reports detailing his immigration enforcement activity after he flouted a federal judge’s injunction.
