Hillsborough County Schools bans ‘This Book Is Gay’

A non-fiction book offering guidance to LGBTQ+ kids called “This Book Is Gay” is being pulled from Hillsborough County middle schools after the county’s school board voted 4-3 Tuesday to ban the book.

School Board members worried the book’s content was inappropriate for middle school students as young as 11 years old.

Even those who dissented – Nadia Combs, Jessica Vaughn and Karen Perez – expressed concern about the book, but voted against the measure because they were initially meant to consider a challenge from just one school, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Hillsborough Schools Superintendent Addison Davis recommended the ban.
