Friday, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist announced his support for the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing Pre-Eminence in Technology and Economic Strength, or America COMPETES Act of 2022.
The omnibus bill aims to slow inflation and increase manufacturing to reduce reliance on China and global supply chains. The bill puts $25 billion into domestic semiconductor manufacturing to bolster the tech industry; another $1.5 billion into the medical supply chain and $45 billion to prevent shortages of goods and boost American manufacturing.
The bill also creates an office to monitor the availability of goods and monitor the supply chain for vulnerabilities and improvements.
