Florida Rep. Chris Latvala is asking the state to fund $3 million for Pinellas County’s West Klosterman Preserve, according to an appropriations request the legislator filed.
The money, which would come from the Department of Environmental Protection, would be used to buy the parcel of land currently owned by the Pinellas County School Board in order to preserve the land from future development.
The school board has already adopted a resolution to sell the Klosterman Preserve property, located along West Klosterman Road, for conservation purposes.
The request states that “there is strong community sentiment” to preserve the parcel of land.
