Local artist creates NYC public art

by
Diane Tonelli

More than 50 pianos will become a public art show called Sing for Hope on display June 3-23 throughout New York City.

Each piano is painted by different artists. St. Petersburg artist Diane Tonelli and daughter Maria Tonelli Smith were chosen to join artists from around the country who painted donated pianos in a New York studio March 22. They painted underwater scenes on their pianos.

The pianos will star in many selfies this summer. Then, they’ll be donated to schools and hospitals as part of Sing for Hope’s mission to transform lives through the power of the arts.
