Goats on a Restaurant’s Roof?

If you are ever in Door County, Wisconsin, you’ll see traffic slow to a crawl as tourists stop to stare at Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant.

What are they staring at? Live goats grazing on the building’s sod roof.

The tradition started decades ago when a local fellow gave Al Johnson a goat named Oscar as a birthday present. And it just made sense to let Oscar and his fellow goats graze on the restaurant’s roof.

Once visitors go inside, they can enjoy the traditional Swedish meatballs or crepe-like pancakes that feature lingonberries, a cross between a cranberry and raspberry.
