A fair exchange that feeds thousands

Did you know there’s a better place than the trash for that rotten apple? At least that’s what one St. Petersburg Free Clinic volunteer shared back in 2018, which led to a partnership with the Foundation for Sustainable Families.

The foundation now collects overripe and inedible produce from the Free Clinic and transforms it into compost used to grow fresh produce like carrots and radishes. The compost has produced more than 100 pounds of fresh produce that’s provided to the Free Clinic’s Client Choice Food Pantry.

It’s part of our overall effort to feed nearly 3,000 households each month.
