Florida’s “Move Over” law requires drivers to move over one lane – safely – for stopped law enforcement, emergency or utility vehicles and disabled cars on the side of the road.
Consider that more than 220 crashes were caused statewide in 2017 by failing to move over.
Tips from AAA:
– Stay alert: Pay attention to traffic changes and situations that could cause motorists to stop.
– Be courteous: As you change lanes, be nice.
– Avoid distractions: Anything that takes your mind off driving is a distraction.
If you can’t move over, slow down 20 mph below the speed limit – even on the highway.
