The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay recently held its Big Idea Grant Competition and awarded $50,000 to fund a nonprofit’s social enterprise idea. The goal was for organizations to build sustainability and generate revenue to further their missions. Think Girl Scout cookies or Goodwill stores.
This year’s winner was the Pinellas Ex-Offender Re-Entry Coalition for its Tiny House Manufacturing Corporation. The nonprofit will train ex-offenders to build and sell tiny houses as part of its workforce development program. It also plans to provide some of the houses to homeless people, veterans or elderly residents in need.
