The Clearwater City Council has voted to break ground on its waterfront park project, which will cost the city a hefty $84 million. The project seeks to redevelop the downtown waterfront Coachman Park, into a massive, 24-acre recreation and entertainment space.
Council members unanimously approved a $55.37 million contract with Skanska Inc. for the construction of Imagine Clearwater. The new waterfront park will include a bandshell and stage, with covered seating for 4,000 individuals, as well as playgrounds, shaded walkways and solar panels.
The project, which hopes to draw residents and tourists alike, is expected to be completed by July 2023.
