City of Tampa celebrates 134 years

by The 100 Companies

The city of Tampa may be turning 134 years old, but it never looked so good.

Tampa celebrates its birthday on July 15, the date that it became an incorporated city all the way back in 1887.

Back then, the city’s cigar industry was just getting its feet off the ground, and the city was only made up of about 800 residents.

Vicente Martinez Ybor  is credited with introducing cigar manufacturing to Tampa, founding his own cigar factory in 1856 the location with his namesake.

Now, it’s a city known for its diversity and sports triumphs, and its great boat parades.
