It’s difficult to imagine the Oxford Exchange was once anything other than marble floors and a limestone fountain, but the space is full of history.
Exposed brick throughout the building speaks to the facility’s age: It was built in 1891, possibly as horse stables for the Tampa Bay Hotel. You’ll find salvaged horseshoes and glass bottles on display in the lobby of the Commerce Club, the Oxford Exchange’s second-floor area.
In the 1920s, a variety of local businesses occupied the building, but then it stood empty for decades. Its new life began in 2012, when the Oxford Exchange opened.
